Configuring Thunderbird to Use the Stanford LDAP Directory

You can configure Thunderbird (or any e-mail client) to pull name and e-mail information from the Stanford LDAP directory.

To do this:

1. Go to Tools->Options (Thunderbird->Preferences on the Mac)
2. Click the Composition tab
3. Click the Addressing tab
4. Check the box that says "Directory Server"
5. Click Edit Directories
6. Click Add
7. Type "Stanford" in the Name box
8. Type "ldap.stanford.edu" in the Hostname box
9. Type "cn=people,dc=stanford,dc=edu" in the Base DN box
10. Type "389" in the Port number box
11. Leave Use secure connection (SSL) unchecked
12. Click OK, then click OK again
13. Be sure to choose Stanford from the Directory Server drop-down menu, then click OK one final time.

Now, when you type in a person's name in the "To," "CC", or "BCC" field(s), it will auto-complete your entry from the Public Stanford LDAP server.
